Otoha Tabata

Japanese violist Otoha Tabata currently studies with Andriy Vitovych at the Royal College of Music London, where she has gained a full scholarship as a Soirée d’Or Scholar, kindly supported by the Ladies of the Soirée d’Or Committee. Recent competition successes include first prize in the North International Competition, and promotion prize in the Anton Rubinstein Viola Competition, and semi-finalist in the Cecil Aronowitz Viola Competition.

She was accepted to the Yehudi Menuhin School aged 10, where her studies were supported by scholarship and the Music and Dance Scheme, and studied violin with Akiko Ono and viola with Boris Kucharsky from 2016.

Performing internationally and across Europe, she has appeared in the Wigmore Hall, the Concertgebouw, and the Queen Elizabeth Hall among many others. In December 2017, Otoha performed Mozart’s Sinfonia Concertante with SongHa Choi and the Westminster Philharmonic Orchestra, conducted by Jonathan Butcher.

Her festival appearances include Wimbledon International Music Festival, AIMS, Virtuoso & Belcanto, Chamber Music Dolomiti, Manchester Music Festival and Four Seasons Chamber Music Festival’s Winter Workshop 2019, where she collaborated with Ani Kavafian, Kwan Yi, Emmanuel Gruber, and Ara Gregorian. She has received masterclasses from many artists including Bruno Giuranna, Lars Anders Tomter, Steven Tenenbom, Paul Cortese, Máté Sz?cs, Hsin-Yun Huang, Jennifer Stumm, Paul Coker, Louise Lansdown, and Thomas Selditz. Otoha performs on a Charles Boullangier viola, kindly lent by the Royal College of Music.
